  • Entering the beginning of overtraining phase.  So feeling a bit moody, edgy and likely to bite off people's head.  Will stop after tomorrow morning's cycle.  Was out for swim yesterday evening and rather pissed at the people swimming across, plus one idiot who kept moving between lanes - he was at 5 so I swam at 4, then he somehow moved across so I moved to 3 and by the time he came over to lane 3, and stopped there, I just waited behind him and asked which lane he was using.  He mumbled something so I told him to stick to lane 3 and 4 and I will use lane 2.  Dunno wad's wrong.  Me and another lady swimmer who came later could even share lane 2 (via the half lanes) with no problems.  Also kinda got a bit put off after the 5th time I got cutoff by kids learning how to swim so I got out and asked the guys what time lesson ends and apparently it's not under their control, so I thanked them and went over to the instructor and asked what time HE was ending.  Well, he was pretty apologetic about it, and got the kids swimming along the flow after that.

One of the guards was apparently eyeing me, dunno for wad.  Maybe coz I was using a new style; breaststroke, then kick, then instead of pure gliding, I used to dolphin style of front crawl to get the distance in.  At first I thought it really pushed my speed up a lot.  Later I tried back the same method with pure glide and still got the speed.

Turns out my kick and glide are getting more efficient than the last time.  I'm becoming a fish!  Or rather turtle, because I'm using breaststroke.

The new method I'm using uses a bit too much oxygen and I tend to go into oxygen-debt after using it too much.  Will continue using it to train but not for the full long distance tri.  It will come in useful when I am doing the swim trials in the pool, where I kick off strongly, then continue dolphin kick and come up quite a distance from the start with the glide.  I think my oxygen-debt when using front crawl is due to the kicking also because my upper body doesn't seem to give that problem.

Heading off for the pool again this evening to be trained by Adrian Mok, then back home and pick up stuffs for tomorrow cycling with Cycleworx people.

On a separate note... this is Desmond Lee, top Junior cyclist and the only Singaporean to go faster than me in Osim Tri on the bike

Wah lan oei!!!!  Look at those leg muscles!!!!  They don't call him Terminator for nothing.

  • I've been nua-ing at home.  Actually managed to finally watch the $5 Warriors Of Heaven And Earth with that cute cute Zhao Wei... and didn't understand half of what was going on because I finally realize my Chinese is far worse than I thought and I have actually been relying on English subtitles even though I thought I knew the Chinese.  In reality, I probably read the English subs, then heard the Chinese words, and THOUGHT I could understand the Chinese.

    Some revelation.

On another rant, why do Chinese shows with English subtitles show those Chinese words without translation, as if expecting someone who doesn't UNDERSTAND the Chinese language already to be able to READ it.  Dumb and dumber.  One such show is Heroes (that one with Jet Li and Maggie Cheung and Liang Chiao Wei).

Okay, I'm feeling too full to swim even though I know I should.  Should I?  Shouldn't I?  Hmmmmmm... difficult choice.  I'll decide after I wake up.

    Another weekend gone.  Life sucks.

  • Went out at 6am, and rode alone for a while, going beyond the usual turning and up to Sembawang and Woodlands before making a left turn (following bus) and then went to the end of that before making a right turn (coz it said Sembawang).  Okay, direction-wise, it doesn't really make sense (a left followed by a right equals back?) but it was correct.  After another right turn, got into Senoko area (??!) then hit Sembawang Road (even more ??!), then finally got back on track (strangely) on the road I came from.  I tried not to ride too hard, conserving for a longer ride, but nearer the end of the ride, my heartrate is indeed higher and I'm pushing more.  Back before Thomson Plaza I saw two guys (ANZA?) going the opposite direction, and I managed to make a U-turn before LongHouse, to chase.  Figure if I took the straight road, I'd be able to catch up to them... and I did!  Right on target in fact, just as they passed the prata shop, I got up and there were other riders waiting there.  Turned out that Adrian Mok was conducting training for Ironman Langkawi people!!!  Arrgh, I couldn't believe my luck.  Managed to chat with him for a while, then he told me about their swim at NIE (the old one) on Mon and Wed... so tomorrow I'll be joining them, at 7pm.

The pace for their ride though is really really slow, and my heartrate is below 110bpm, which is even way lower than a recovery ride, so I said by goodbyes and made it back to Thomson group... was early so dropped in Joyce's place first to refill and go toilet.  Back and there were two riders wearing red (can't figure out if Viner or Liquid Elements), three ang mo, one Cycleworx (though he's a non-Cycleworx rider) and one cute cute lady, who then proceed to change her tubes in record time - before any of us could offer help.  Dunno where to hide face.  Kit-bird was there too; my cycling teammate.  The others are nowhere to be seen.  In the end we left and the lady was doing some stuffs at the Shell Petrol station so we waited a while then went.  Managed to speak to her; she's from Canada but born in Singapore.  Back for 2 weeks with "him" (either bf or hubby) to visit family and looking for riding groups.  I made some comment about how good a climber she must be!  Laughs.  Another chiongster like Esther, she refused to let the guys let her draft, instead pulling ahead and riding with me when I picked up the pace to break the wind for her so that we can pull back to the small group that started to move quite a bit ahead.  But she has a max power output and I keep just slightly behind her to let her dictate the pace while the other two red jersey riders were behind.  Then one of them pulls up and I follow and the pace was hard enough to drop the her and the other rider.  By the time we hit Mandai the gentleman (red jersey #1) fell back to bring them up to pace... then I led but I think they have run out of fuel and drop out coz when I looked back they were gone... far!

Time to pick up the pace, and I got on my aerobars now (which I don't use when riding in pack) and tried to catch up to the group.  About this time a trailer - huge! - came and was in front of me, going at a nice speed while downhill at Mandai, and I was drafting easily behind it, recovering while going at 56kmh the whole time!  By the time we hit the traffic lights, I had caught up with the group already.  From here it's me and another ang mo guy who's breaking the wind.  KB helps me out when he sees me getting tired, while the rest take turns but not for long periods.  It feels good, burning the legs while on a little beyond sustainable speed, at times hitting up to 45kmh for a stretch while I try to pull back to the group (okay, I cheated - used aerobars for this - but just one guy behind me).  The ang-mo I suspect is the one who came with the Canadian lady (who by this time is presumably escorted by the two gentlemen, and very far behind) and is very strong at sustainable high speed.

Down back Bukit Timah, I drop back when the speed goes sub 33kmh and used my aerobars.  At some point in time KB noticed I'm behind while he's still behind the strong ang-mo guy, with two others in between them and me, and slowly drops back to check on me.  Told him I was okay, and that I was using the aerobars, then I pushed the pace to pull back to the two, and continued at chase pace up to the ang-mo, then KB powering up the slope while I took it at gentler pace, conserving efforts for a longer ride style.  Guys start going left and right off home so KB and myself decided to head to Newton but ended up at the Caltex petrol station and had coffee there.  Chatted a while about stuffs like swimming and running then headed back.

Bike was easily cleaned with the high-speed jet spray; very very dirty.  I just realize as I am writing this that I forgot to lube it!!  Arrgh, hope the chain has not rusted by now.

I'm clean and thinking of going for a swim... now or later?  But tomorrow still have swim.  Should I?

Total bike ride today: 110km in 3hr 30mins of riding time (my HRM got stopped accidentally at some point so I lost track of actual time on and off the bike).  Urgh!!!  It started drizzling again.  So much for swimming.  Maybe I'll go for a movie or something.

  • Rain rain go awaaaaay!!!!!

Urgh, dunno whether to go cycling now or not.  Penggarang/Desaru trip is definitely off already.  Now I'm a bit stuck in limbo whether to start now or later.  It's been raining continuously for at least 15 hours now.  The longest rain I've ever counted.

I probably need to read Lance Armstrong book again (he rides rain or shine, snow or hailstorm).

In other news, my order from WorldCycling has arrived but...
two DVDs are missing from the order
one water bottle is missing, the other arrived
one 6-DVD pack has DVD4 and DVD5 missing!
    one bag did not come
so I wrote back to them.  Hmm... that reminds me to check my Hotmail now... no reply yet.  They prob don't work Sats.

Two new friends has approved my subscription and I went round looking at testimonials then click on their friends and somehow stumbled onto... http://www.friendster.com/user.jsp?id=3639604, which is a proof of how male hormones still ranks up there when it comes to grabbing a guy's attention.

Just got reminded that we broke up a year ago (&%^@#% for going into Elannese's site).  Oh well, at least it got me started on cycling, without which I wouldn't have experienced the wonderful and colourful life, and especially my cycling buddies - Joyce, Esther and Hairul, amongst others.  Then again Liz probably will still be closer to me... for some reason she isn't really that close to me anymore and quite reluctant to help out or even chat with me.  Alright, we still talk after class and maybe she feels she has nothing else to offer me already in term of knowledge but there's still plenty as I am still pretty much a newbie (okay, who am I trying to bluff here - 11 races under my pocket already).

5.45am now and YAYY!!!!  THE RAIN HAS STOPPED!!!!!!!!

  • I'm using the OTHER computer now (Joyce's is up, all set and ready but can't get the internet working).  Walked JJ this morning and took him a long way, all the way into McRitchie.  Think he got tired and kept lying down.  On the way back, I spotted Jo, the runners from the Sat runner's group - all gathered at Kim's place.  Everyone was quite happy to see JJ though.  They were heading to Longhouse for breakfast.  Took JJ back and joined them, and now am back home.

Went to Eric one of the cyclist's place for BBQ last evening and ate a lot, a lot of fatty food, sugar, even vodka-spiked welcome drinks and felt very "fat".  Really, can feel it.  The face is kinda bloated up.  Okay, so I regretted eating so much.  Still managed to da-bao two pieces of steak for JJ at home.  He took one piece last evening and I'm saving the other for today.

Still at home... I should be out already.  Didn't get to do too much yesterday, although I got to Bike Haus and didn't manage to get the Fuel Belt (out of stock, coming in next week) but got a pair of Elite Orca Tri pants, for the swim, cycle and run.  It doesn' t have much padding though, and I'm wondering if it will last me for 180km of cycling.  Maybe I will try it for tomorrow's biking.

Urgh, that reminds me I need to go back home and collect bike to bring here too.

  • Started swimming at 2mins to 11am at AMK pool.  By the time I hit 60 laps it's 12.10pm.  By the time I hit 80 laps it's 12.35pm.  So 1hr 37mins for a full 4km swim (+/-100m coz may have miscounted).

I don't know what to occupy my mind after 20laps.  It just went a bit here, a bit there, then when I hit 30laps it got difficult to count as I kinda stopped counting too.  The mind just drifts.  Last five laps was okay though, but by then a bit tired already.  Legs are alright too; so Mon's leg tiredness was due to Sun's cycling race only.

And Joyce's computer is confirmed dead.  Seems to be getting worse.  I will try to get it fixed by tomorrow...

    Raaaaain, GO AWAAAAY!!!

  • On "MC" today.  The usual doctor, the usual stuffs.  He know why I'm there and I know why I continue to go there.

Well, at least I'll be able to fit a swim in this morning, plus settle a lot of stuffs which I was supposed to do but have been procrastinating about.  Will also be able to bring JJ out for a walk.  Joyce's PC is down for some weird reason after I switched it on so I'm now back at my own place and PC, be packing some clean clothes then moving back.  After my swim.  Should be heading out to AMK pool any time now.

Also been checking out swim goggles but undecided as to what I want.  Been eyeing a mirror version of those eye-socket goggles but don't think they are meant for long distance swims.  On the other side are whole masks http://www.wildernessassociates.com/wilderness/search/search2.jsp?pid=25TKNB146730 which looks pretty comfortable for distance swim but looks kinda like er... dunno.  Something from The Outerlimits?

  • Got a major scare last evening as JJ was MISSING when I reached home.  No barking or lively greeting.  I searched every corner of the house, opened every room, switch on all the lights, combed the garden, then repeated process and still couldn't find him.  In the end resorted to calling owner and was told to check with neighbour.  Phew.

    Lost and found.

  • First thing first.  To set the record straight: I am NOT a quiz fanatic.  Just something bored, especially with the bosses not in the office clearing leave.

Second thing is, tickets are all gone already.  They were from Starhub because our office uses their services.

Third thing is ... err there is no third thing.  Okay start of today
    _____________________________________________________

Had a weird morning.  Possibly because I felt quite bad last evening.  I kinda saw from the pictures that I was the one who caused the breakup of my own fellow cycling mates - due to the fact that the pace moved up when the rest tried to chase me and cycling mates couldn't keep up.  I feel really bad about it.

Realization: I can't cycle when I am emotional.

Weird dreams and didn't get to sleep well.  Woke up at 2.30am and went to the bathroom, then didn't manage to sleep till 4am and even then was plagued by nightmare.  Kinda like running away from Night Of The Living Dead but was a happy ending, coz me and two other ladies (and I dunno how they got there too) got to jump off a very very tall building to land right into a pool where there were wooden logs and we kinda floated away... and I woke up, to the tune of Titanic and images of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.  Really weird.

Also worried about JJ (dog) because he took in a whole bone last evening and ... well he seems to be handling it well this morning, no problems, but I was really worried.  I didn't expect him to take in the whole bone, only to eat the meat and gnaw on the bone itself.  No more bones for him.  It makes me too worried.  I was up at 6am and thought it was raining but decided to walk JJ, so we went and it wasn't really raining, just kinda drizzling very slightly and was nice and we went out, JJ marking almost everything with his pee, and went down to McRitchie and came back.  Think he was really tired after that, but happy.  Just kinda lied down on the floor with a sleepy look.

Realize now that he's a pretty fussy eater too.  Won't eat his food if it's been left out for too long.
